Ringing Report 15 – 16 October 2025

The weather was mostly overcast, but still with occasional sunshine. The catch was a large one with 55 Blue Tits being caught. A lot of new first year birds were amongst those caught but also ones that had not been caught since this time last year. There were also birds from nest boxes 2, 3, 5 and 7 on the Island and one from a local nesting box from a garden in town, so birds that were coming in to the Island from the surrounding area.

The Sparrowhawk was a second-year male in a striking plumage. It thought it could get an easy meal from one of the nets but caught itself.

The Cetti’s Warblers were the male caught recently along with an unringed female; both were first year birds. The Coal Tit was also a first-year bird. All the Goldcrests were also first year birds.

A Raven flew over the Island calling while we were having lunch!
