Ringing Report 15 July 2026
In the middle of one of the July heatwaves the weather was overcast and cold to begin with. It warmed up later in the morning. Only four nets were used, partly due to a fallen tree over the grass path, and partly as there was a work party that morning.
The birds were not moving around at all, so the catch was very small and consisted mainly of young Reed Warblers which were staying around. Most of the Sedge Warblers had already moved to a feeding site before their journey south.
A recovery of a Chiffchaff ringed on 8 April this year, controlled at Little Paxton gravel Pits on 7 July, it seems to shows the way the smaller birds follow the river, feeding on the way, to their breeding grounds.
Also seen were Swallows and House Martins, and a Fox was heard barking.
