Ringing Report 17 – 18 June 2026
The weather was dry and the wind was much lighter than forecast. There are now quite a few juvenile birds around. We caught a Juvenile Kingfisher, which was very docile, also a lot of Juvenile Blackcaps and Dunnocks.
We are no longer able to set nets in the reed bed as it has grown significantly with the recent rain. So, any Reed Warblers in that area are uncatchable. However, all the adult Reed Warblers that we caught were re-traps. Most of the Sedge Warblers caught previously were in the reed bed, so fewer of those caught.
Good numbers of Blackcaps were caught, both adults and juveniles. They seem to be having a better year than last year. We also caught another new Garden Warbler. This one was an adult female that was breeding, probably on the Island. The Blackcaps included one with a deformed beak and another that had both male and female characteristics.
Some of the re-traps included a Reed Warbler first ringed in 2021 and caught each year since, and a Blue Tit reared in Box 12.
