Ringing Report 18 – 19 March 2026
The weather was very warm, the hottest of the spring so far. The birds were singing and this included various warblers such as the Cetti’s Warbler, Blackcap and Chiffchaff. The re-trap Chiffchaff was ringed on the Island last year on 1 May. Both the Green Woodpecker and Great Spotted Woodpeckers were drumming, the one that was caught was a new female.
There were many more two and three-year-old birds caught than previously when it was mainly last year’s young. These including two Great Tit and Blue Tit from 2023 and two Great Tits, a Blue Tit, two Wrens and a Dunnock from 2024. There was also a Blue Tit from Box 1.
There were an abundance of Peacock butterflies and several Brimstones. The first Marsh Marigolds were in flower near the main noticeboard.
