Ringing Report 25 June 2025

The weather was humid and overcast, but dry and still. There were plenty of juvenile birds which had recently left their nests. The most notable birds caught were the Cetti’s Warbler that probably did not fledge on the Island but not far away, and the Treecreeper.

A number of the Blue Tits were from boxes on the Island including Box 1(2), boxes 2, 3, 5 and 7. In spite of few fledgling Great Tits produced on the Island the number of juvenile Great Tits was higher than that of the Blue Tits, so they must have done well in the surrounding area. I wonder if the lack of Ivy, to give food and protection, had anything to with this?

There were good numbers of Dragonflies and Damselflies around including Banded Demoiselles, Brown Hawkers and various blue Damselflies. There were also many butterflies particularly Comma, Red Admiral and Small Whites.
