Ringing Report – 5 August 2024

The weather was warm but overcast, the breeze got up towards the end of the session. This was a short morning session with seven nets.

It was interesting to catch the juvenile Garden Warbler, we have not heard any adults singing most of this year so presumably they bred a little way from the Island.

One of the re-trapped Blue Tits was ringed on 21 March 2015 as a first year bird so it fledged in summer of 2014, and she has been caught 22 times since then so very faithful to the Island.

The number of warblers being caught this year seems to be down on previous years. It doesn’t seem to be the same elsewhere so it could be the ageing of the reed bed is pushing them elsewhere.
