Ringing Report 7 August 2026
The third heatwave is just giving way to the fourth, this was a short session from 5:00 am to 10:00 am. The weather was still and warmed up very quickly.
As a result of the hot weather the composition of birds on the Island has changed with the Sedge Warblers having left for larger feeding grounds, but the Reed Warblers are remaining and moving round looking for food. No Chiffchaffs were heard, they may be moving further north, but an early Willow Warbler was caught, on its migration south. Climate change is affecting the birds significantly.
There are large numbers of Wrens flitting round the vegetation across the boardwalk. The Tit flocks are not present, only a small flock of Long-tailed Tits. The new feeding regime may have something to do with this.
Ruddy Darters and Common Darters were seen in number mainly in the Meadow.
