Ringing Report 8 April 2026
The weather was fine and very hot reaching the mid 20 degrees. This was a short session using six nets to see what warblers were present.
We are now well into the migration season and just into the breeding season. Five species of warblers were caught. This included two Sedge Warblers which had recently arrived; one of them was returning having been ringed on the Island last April. The Willow Warbler was probably passing through.
The re-trapped Blackcaps were one from 2024 (a male), and one from 2025 (a female). The Cetti’s Warblers were all ringed in 2025 and have been caught several times. There seem to be two pairs; of which two males and one female were caught.
Two adult male Rooks were caught. There are a couple of nests, the first in recent years that they have nested on the Island, an overspill from the churchyard.
With the sun out there were a lot of butterflies around including Brimstones, a lot of Peacocks and Orange tips.
